Maultaschen (“mouth pockets”) and Kartoffelsalat are of Southern German cuisine, but especially important this time of year. In former times, Swabian housewives made Maultaschen in order to hide the meat that was forbidden during Lent by the Catholic Church. Over time these dishes became closely associated with celebrations of Maudy Thursday and Good Friday in this part of Germany.
IWCS Member Kim Flood has arranged for seven of us to join her in an English-language Maultaschen and Kartoffelsalat Workshop at Stephanie Guillard’s resturant, Soul Mama’s Kitchen (located at the Princess Hotel in Plochingen). The S-Bahn station Plochingen is right outside the hotel. This event is being held during “Karwoche”, which is a Swabian term for the week before Easter.
Come and let Stephanie show you how she learned to make these wonderful dishes from her mother using her grandmother’s special recipe! The three-hour workshop will be followed by dinner and drinks. Don’t forget to bring your apron and a container for leftovers! The IWC Stuttgart will be covering €10 per member making our cost only €25 EUR per person. To participate, please RSVP using the form below or in the pending Facebook event, and transfer your €25 fees prior to February 16th.
PLEASE NOTE: The cancellation fee for this event has been set by Soul Mama’s Kitchen and will be €17,50.
