IWCS 2019 Mother’s Corner Summer Party

IWCS 2019 Mother’s Corner Summer Party

IWCS 2019 MOTHER’S CORNER SUMMER PARTY
This event is for all IWCS members and their families!
Sunday July 7th from 11:00
Schulbauernhof Zukunftsfelder, Am Lotterberg 36, 70825 Korntal-Münchingen
Nearest station: Korntal Gymnasium

Bring the whole family to the IWCS Mother’s Corner summer party in July, being held at a farm near Weilimdorf! There’s lots of room for the kids to run around and a quick visit to farm itself is included. We’ll be grilling and having a potluck lunch.

The Mother’s Corner will be providing meat to grill and soft drinks – in case you need a veggie alternative, please let us know. We ask each family attending to bring either a side dish or dessert to share (veggie/vegan side dishes are especially welcome). Each family should also bring their own dishes and cups/picnicware.

All family members are welcome, including grandparents! Because we will be outside and at a farm, some things to think about include clothes that can get dirty, sunscreen, outdoor toys, and a blanket to sit on.

To RSVP, please use the pending Facebook event in the private members group or the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

Members + Families Event: Alpaca Walk and Farm Tour

Members + Families Event: Alpaca Walk and Farm Tour

Alpaca Walk and Farm Tour (English)
For members and their families

Saturday, 18th May 2019 starting at 9:45
Location: Alpakafarm Schaber, Hochen 4, 72622 Nürtingen-Neckarhausen
€35 adults / €10 children 6 and up / children under 6 free
Pre-payment deadline May 8th
Your host: member Claire DeVaney

Since they were domesticated like their llama cousins around 5000 years ago, alpacas have been kept for their meat, wool, and as a super pack animal ideal for mountain treks. They can walk long distances on relatively little subsistence; they’re sure-footed and agile; and they’re super fluffy and cute!!

Alpacas are whimsical members of the camel family with lovely kind eyes and a gentle nature. In recent years their wooly faces and observant, calm demeanor has made them highly sought after walking companions.

We’ve organized an amazing day out with these gentle beasts for members and their families in May. It includes an alpaca-accompanied trek in Nürtingen followed by a tour of the farm with plenty of petting allowed. The gentle trek will last around 1 hour and will take in views over the Schwäbische Alb from Göppingen over Kirchheim to Reutlingen.

During the guided tour we will see the farm and furnished with all the knowledge we could ever need about alpaca care, diet and breeding as well as the fascinating role of alpacas today from therapy animals to wool production. As a parting gift, all adults will go home with a pair of alpaca wool socks!

You’re then invited to join us for lunch in Nürtingen if you wish (not included in cost of the tour).

Practical Information
9:45 Arrival and registration – please be punctual
10:00 Trek begins
11:00 Return and begin farm tour
12:00 Tour ends
12:30 Lunch in Nürtingen

There is a Hofladen on-site but best to bring water and perhaps a snack. We will walk in any weather. With any luck we’ll have sunshine but of course be prepared with weather-appropriate clothing such as a rain jacket, waterproof shoes, and so on.

The farm is best reached by car (or take a taxi from the Nürtigen station). If you would like to attend but don’t have access to a car, be sure to post in the Facebook event and we can try to arrange a car pool!

Your cost for this event will be €35 per adult and €10 for each child age 6 and up. Children under 6 are free! To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €35/€10 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than May 8th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

HERB AND WILD VEGETABLE FORAGING TOUR
For members and their families
Sunday, April 14th from 13:00
Location: Schorndorf (exact location published 1 week beforehand)
Nearest station: Schorndorf
€25/€39 per person, prepayment deadline – March 31st

Our favorite outdoor explorers, Abenteuerreich in Remstal, will be taking us on a guided walk this spring through the meadows and woods around Schorndorf to learn how to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous local plants and collect a goodly amount of the non-poisonous variety. At the end we will make a pesto from what we’ve collected to eat at an outdoor picnic.

Although we will be greeted in English, most of this tour will be in German, so be prepared to work your brains, learn some new vocabulary, and have your kids or fellow members translate if necessary (we did this on last year’s tour and there was no problem understanding at all!). Bring along worn-in walking shoes/boots, a waterproof jacket, a camera, a penknife, a small basket or other container, and a notebook and pen. We’ll find out the exact meeting place nearer the time.

Current IWCS members and their entire family are welcome to join this event and costs will be partially subsidized by the club. Children (up to age 13) are free and two adults or teenagers are invited to attend at the discount price of €25 per person. Additional adults are welcome to join but will pay full price (€39 per person).

We have reserved space for 15 adults and 5 children but can add more to this reservation as needed. To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €25/€39 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than March 31st.

Upcoming 2018 Holiday Events SAVE THE DATES

sunset-1906999_1920

Now that we’ve transitioned from our long, hot summer into the chillier autumn, our Activities Planning team has come up with a list of fun holiday events that we would love to see all your smiling faces at!!

We are starting off in October with a Halloween Party for the Mother’s Corner Group. Members with little ones are welcome to join Laura and Mimi for a fun day at the pumpkin festival at Schloss Ludwigsburg on the 28th.

In November we have two amazing specialty dinners planned for you. The first is a North American-style Thanksgiving dinner in member Rachael B’s home for the whole family on the 25th. Then members and one adult guest are also invited to a traditional Goose dinner at a local restaurant for St. Martin’s Day on the 29th.

Whether you prefer turkey or goose, German or North American traditions, members are welcome to join either or both! Space is limited, so RSVP early. If neither appeals to you, we will still be hosting our regular monthly dinner in November as always.

In December we will again be celebrating our annual Christmas dinner and gift exchange, happening on the 11th at The Stäffele in Stuttgart-West. This dinner will take the place of our regular monthly dinner and is for members only. The gift exchange is hilarious and one of the highlights of the year! More details about the menu should be available next month.

Other holiday-themed events being planned include the Frauen helfen Frauen Virtual Giving Tree during Advent time, a Christmas party for Mother’s Corner on December 13th, and our annual Cookie Exchange at Sandra B’s home on December 9th.

Put these dates in your calendars now to make sure you save room for some club activities this holiday season!

The club will be sponsoring water and soft drinks.

Guests are welcome to arrive any time Sunday afternoon starting at 14:00. Dinner will be served at 16:00, so please make sure you are able to arrive no later than 15:45 with your dish for the buffet.

She lives next to the S-Bahn station “Leonberg” and there is parking available nearby if you need it. If you have no idea what to bring or don’t normally celebrate Thanksgiving in your culture, please ask her for suggestions!! There will be a sign up list in the pending Facebook event.
