GUIDED TOUR OF KILLESBERG PARK SCULPTURE TRAIL
For members and their families
Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00
Meeting point: Entrance at corner of Maybachstrasse and Stresemannstrasse
Nearest station: Maybachstr or Pragsattel or Bus 43
RSVP deadline: June 3rd

From your host, member Lene B:

Most of you have been to Killesberg park, as it is one of Stuttgart’s most famous parks. I have lived next to it for more than a year but I still discover new things about the area.

Join me for a walk around the park, where I will tell a little bit about history, art, flowers, events and hidden gems. Hopefully the weather will be good!

Our meeting point for this two hour walk will be the entrance at corner of Maybachstrasse and Stresemannstrasse. You can enter Maybachstr. No. 3 in Google Maps, if necessary.

Please let me know no later than the day before if you are planning to attend. This walk might be boring for active young children, but you are welcome to take a break at the playground and meet us for coffee later.

You can use the contact form below or the pending Facebook event in our members only group to RSVP for this event.

HERB AND WILD VEGETABLE FORAGING TOUR
For members and their families
Sunday, April 14th from 13:00
Location: Schorndorf (exact location published 1 week beforehand)
Nearest station: Schorndorf
€25/€39 per person, prepayment deadline – March 31st

Our favorite outdoor explorers, Abenteuerreich in Remstal, will be taking us on a guided walk this spring through the meadows and woods around Schorndorf to learn how to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous local plants and collect a goodly amount of the non-poisonous variety. At the end we will make a pesto from what we’ve collected to eat at an outdoor picnic.

Although we will be greeted in English, most of this tour will be in German, so be prepared to work your brains, learn some new vocabulary, and have your kids or fellow members translate if necessary (we did this on last year’s tour and there was no problem understanding at all!). Bring along worn-in walking shoes/boots, a waterproof jacket, a camera, a penknife, a small basket or other container, and a notebook and pen. We’ll find out the exact meeting place nearer the time.

Current IWCS members and their entire family are welcome to join this event and costs will be partially subsidized by the club. Children (up to age 13) are free and two adults or teenagers are invited to attend at the discount price of €25 per person. Additional adults are welcome to join but will pay full price (€39 per person).

We have reserved space for 15 adults and 5 children but can add more to this reservation as needed. To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €25/€39 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than March 31st. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

Sunday, October 14th from 13:00
Location: Schorndorf area (exact location published 1 week beforehand)
To RSVP with host Alex Elwin, use the pending Facebook event or contact form below – Prepayment deadline is September 30th

Autumn is mushroom season! But which are edible and which not? What is cauliflower fungus? Can one eat giant puffballs? Which fungi can be used as tinder? Fewer and fewer people these days are sure, so we’ve booked a guided walk through the Schwäbisch woods to learn everything there is to know on the subject with abenteuerreich Erlebnistouren.

During this unique event, an experienced guide will show us how to determine if a particular mushroom is edible, how to harvest it and also how to cook it. This 2-3 hour tour will also include a small tasting.

Although we will be greeted in English, most of this tour will be in German, so be prepared to work your brains, learn some new vocabulary, and have your kids or fellow members translate if necessary. Bring along worn-in walking shoes/boots, a waterproof jacket, a camera, a penknife, a small basket or other container, and a notebook and pen. We’ll find out the exact meeting place nearer the time.

We have reserved space for 15 adults and 5 children but can add more to this reservation up to 25 people total. If there is huge demand for this event we can open a second reservation for another group on the same day. To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €25/€39 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than September 30th. Members Only Outing to the Bärensee

Baerensee

BÄRENSEE OUTING
For all members and their families (including pets!)
Sunday, April 22nd at 13:00
Meeting point: Bärenschlössle im Rotwildpark, Mahdentalstraße 14, 70569 Stuttgart
Nearest station: Most easily reached by car, but you can take the 92 bus from Üniversität and then walk
Hosts: Alex & George Elwin

Come join us for a family-friendly outdoor event where we will explore the area around the Bärenschlößle, a former baronial hunting lodge which has now been lovingly restored  into a cosy restaurant on two levels, serving Flammkuchen and other German favorites.

In order to secure a sufficient supply of drinking water for the people of Stuttgart, Duke Christoph had a dam built in 1566 which created the Pfaffensee and then later the Bärensee and Neue See. This area is now a wonderful place to explore at any time of the year with its picnic and grill areas and countless walks.

Alex and George will have several options on offer with activities available for those with children and two different lengths of walks for those who want to exercise their dogs or themselves.

Afterwards we will all meet back at the Bärenschlößle for coffee and cake/ice cream inside or out, depending on weather. You can even bring a picnic if you are feeling hardy and the weather isn’t terrible. It may well still be chilly out – often it snows in April in Stuttgart!

For questions or to RSVP, please visit the pending event in our members Facebook group or use the contact form below if you don’t have Facebook.
