What’s On: 2019 Charity Events

What’s On: 2019 Charity Events

Back in October, we made an announcement that we wouldn’t be planning an Annual Charity Event in 2019. Our team decided to take a break from the big events this year to focus on a smaller and more personal approach.

We promised to update you on our 2019 program so that members can still help make a difference in the lives of the women and children at the Stuttgart Frauenhaus.

Here are some events already on the schedule which will directly support our fundraising efforts this year – click on the photos to see details!

2019 clothes swap

2019 coin collection

2019 book swap

And that is just the first quarter! Some charity events being considered for the rest of the year include a fondue lunch at a member’s home and a night out with cocktails somewhere nice.

Additionally, this year we are restructuring how we price some of our monthly special events (generally tours and cultural events). You might also notice us requesting a donation for some events in lieu of a participation fee. For other events we will start “rounding up” the oddly-priced member prepayment amounts, giving you a nice round number to transfer and some extra change for our 2019 collection.

We hope you enjoy what’s on offer and even think about getting involved in organizing a smaller event yourself! Check our Claire’s blog post about that here.

Here’s to a successful 2019 year of charity!

If you remember the Petit Fours workshop from last year, you won’t want to miss this evening of French baking with the talented Geraldine Tran, a former IWCS member originally hailing from Paris. The theme is yet to be decided, but we will learn techniques for an assortment of small, tasty treats (either all sweet or some combination of sweet and savory).

The member cost for this event is €40, to be paid in advance. The International Women’s Club Stuttgart will be subsidizing the remainder of the fees for the class.

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend (18+)
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse or friend.
  • You and your guest each pay the member cost listed above.

To start the reservation process, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below to contact the activities team if you are not on Facebook. We must have a minimum of 10 participants signed up no later than January 8th for this event to take place.

If we have reached the minimum by that date, you will then be given our bank details to send in your prepayment fee no later than January 15th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

Sunday, February 10th at 14:00
Location: Claire’s home in Stuttgart
Limit 10 guests – donation of 10 euros per person requested

Hosts: Claire DeVaney

You know those clothes that you put on, then take off again thinking “I love it, but it’s just not me”? Those ones that looked good on the hanger but just don’t feel right? We all have them…so why not come along to our clothes swap and share them.

Here’s how it works: bring along some good quality women’s clothing, shoes, or accessories to swap with one another (please no used bathing suits, lingerie etc.). And not just clothes! Feel free to bring along gently worn shoes, handbags, jewelry, scarves and unopened beauty products to swap.

Please bring items you’d be happy to give to your friends NOT things that need to be binned. We’ll need clothes of all sizes and they should be washed, ironed, and in good condition (no holes or stains).

We are requesting that each guest bring 10 euros per person as a donation to cover some drinks, nibbly bits, and a donation to Frauen helfen Frauen.

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one (female) guest are welcome to attend.
  • Your +1 can be a friend or adult family member.
  • This event is limited to 10 guests total.

To start the reservation process, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below to contact the hosts if you are not on Facebook.

When St. Martin was elected bishop in the 4th century,  his modesty didn’t allow him to accept the position so he hid in a stable full of geese. But the birds were making so much noise that he was found and was ordained despite his attempt to avoid it. This legend forms the basis of the traditional goose dinner on St. Martin’s Day in Germany, Austria and other European countries (the actual date is on November 11th).

Let’s celebrate St. Martin’s Day together! We will have a traditional menu consisting of:

  • leg and breast of goose
  • two kinds of traditional German dumplings (Semmelknödel and Kartoffelklöße)
  • red cabbage
  • and a roast apple (Bratapfel)

If you still have room for a dessert it can be ordered a la carte.

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, adult child, or friend
  • You and your guest each pay the cost listed below

The price of this menu is €29,80 per person (drinks not included). The club will sponsor table water for everyone. Please be advised that this restaurant only accepts cash, so please bring plenty with you!!

ballet-545291_1920

PRIVATE TOUR AND WORKSHOP IN ENGLISH
Saturday, October 6th -OR- Sunday, October 7th at 13:45
Location: Stuttgart Opera House, Oberer Schloßgarten 6, 70173 Stuttgart-Mitte
Hosts: Michelle Moore (Sat) and Alex Elwin (Sun)
Cost: Donation of €10 per family in support of Frauen helfen Frauen e.V..

For those of you with little girls and boys interested in the ballet, dance, or theater, our activities team has arranged for a wonderful experience for IWCS children (ages 6-12) and their families!

Led by former dancers, we will tour the Opera House with its gorgeous stage and auditorium and then go backstage to the costume department and arts and crafts area. Afterwards the children will be led in a short dance workshop in the very studios where the professional dancers themselves practice.

The tour takes 90 minutes, including the mini dance workshop. We will meet at the main entrance to the opera house on the stairs. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring ballet slippers or light sneakers. Children are of course welcome to dress up!

Because the Stuttgart Ballet is a world-renowned institution, the IWCS will be sponsoring the entire cost of this private event. We are asking for a donation of €10 per family in support of Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. to be paid in advance to reserve your spots. Members without children are also welcome to join us for the tour, but keep in mind that the event will be geared towards children. We recommend that younger siblings (under 6) do not attend this event as they will not be able to take part and will count towards the total maximum number allowed.

To take part in this tour, please RSVP in the Facebook event in our private members group. To confirm your reservation, please transfer the your family’s donation to the IWCS bank account no later than September 29th. Donations are non-refundable after the payment deadline. We can accept up to 20 attendees per session. Reserve your spot now!
