AGM 2017 IN REVIEW

calendar-2069808_1280On March 21st we held our club’s annual general meeting as required by our club charter and German law.

We enjoyed delicious Swabian food and elected our 2017 Steering Committee. Emily presented the Board Report for 2016 and Dorothee went over the figures in the 2016 Financials. A link to each of these documents can be found in the April newsletter in the “News” section.

We also talked about ideas for the upcoming year and held a loose change coin collection for Frauen helfen Frauen.

AGM 2015 IN REVIEW

For the first time in forever, our Annual General Meeting held on February 10th was not “frozen”! Members were able to travel to and from the event center in Waldau without risk of slipping on ice and snow, as the skies remained clear.

Inside the meeting, we enjoyed great Swabian food and elected our 2015 Steering Committee. We also talked about ideas for the upcoming year and held a book swap that netted €70 for Frauen helfen Frauen.

New members on this year’s committee include Vaida Kovalick, Deidre Seuffert, and Michelle Niese-Mendel. Here is the entire 2015 IWCS Steering Committee:

One of the painful truths about being an international club is that eventually most of our members move away.

This September, we will lose a friend who is our current secretary, number one Polish Pottery collector, leader of walks, world traveler, top level wine connoisseur, and all around fun lady.

We’ve really enjoyed having you here, Christy – keep on smiling and don’t forget about us!

AGM 2014 in Review

Thank you to the 20 members who attended the 2014 Annual General Meeting last Tuesday night!

As always, we had dinner together, held Steering Committee elections, reviewed 2013 and previewed 2014. As an added bonus this year, we held a book swap that benefited Frauen helfen Frauen to the tune of over €90!!!

Update – Steering Committee Changes

Copy of Glass globes from iStock-1Here is an update on the Steering Committee reorganizing due to the recent elections – please make a note of the changes that affect you!

Mother’s Corner – Cassie Leap Wiselka is now officially the contact instead of Sandra. She will be on the other end of the mothers-corner email address when you write to it.

Newsletter and Weekly Reminders – Sandra Bartsch has taken those over from Emily effective immediately. Her new club email address is newsletter at iwcstuttgart dot org (the one the newsletters are sent from).

Focus Group Coordinator – as part of her newsletter duties, Sandra will also take over this part of activities planning from Laura Lenz. Starting with the April dates, Sandra will be your main contact regarding focus groups. Please start sending your meeting details to her newsletter email address.

New Addition to the Activities Planning Team – New member Stephanie Siebert has been elected to help Laura Lenz organize this year’s events and outings. Talk to either one of them if you have an idea for an IWC event!

And finally…Charitable Relations Chair – Helen Noll has been elected to take over the charity arm of the club. She will be responsible for planning our next big event in 2015 and for all 2014 fundraising for Frauen helfen Frauen. After the resignation of our long-time Treasurer, Tonya Busch, the club held special elections on December 10th at our Annual Holiday Dinner to fill her position.

Dorothee Klein (formerly our Vice President and Charitable Relations chair) was elected to the Treasurer position, which she will hold until general elections again in February of 2014.

Sandra Bartsch (currently our Mother’s Corner chair) was elected to the Vice President position that Dorothee vacated. Sandra will work as the Vice President and Mother’s Corner chair until general elections in February 2014.

We enjoyed having you on the committee and in the club, Tonya, and will miss your input and energy!!!

New IWC Treasurer Wanted!!

Dear members,

As mentioned in the September newsletter, we are looking for a volunteer to replace our current club Treasurer. This position is perfect for someone who wants to get involved in a behind-the-scenes way.

We’ve drawn up a brief job description for your consideration. If you have an accounting or financial background  and are interested in becoming part of our team, please contact Emily using the form below.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • has a financial or accounting background,
  • possesses some German language skills (not 100% necessary but preferred),
  • has time to attend monthly committee meetings and is willing to communicate online with other committee members, and
  • is well-organized and motivated to work independently.

TREASURER DUTIES:

The Treasurer is a member of our organization’s Vorstand, the group of officers who are responsible for the club. Our Vorstand currently includes Emily Born as President and Dorothee Klein as Vice President. The Vorstand makes the final decisions regarding club business and the Treasurer position comes with a high level of responsibility that any motivated person can easily handle. If you have found yourself in Stuttgart during a career break, this position looks excellent on a resume.

Regular duties:

  • Keeping track of income and expenses using our Mein Verein software that would need to be installed on your computer
  • Paying club bills and reimbursing activity expenses via online banking
  • Attending monthly evening leadership committee meetings
  • Staying in regular contact with the other Vorstand members and leadership committee via social media and email (we used to use Google groups for this but now have private groups on Facebook)

Infrequent duties:

  • Preparing yearly financial statements and treasurer’s report for the AGM
  • Preparing and mailing out renewal membership dues invoices to current members once yearly
  • Preparing occasional tax receipts (especially after the charity event)
  • Filing simple tax forms with the Finanzamt Stuttgart
  • Helping with charity event budget and financial summary
  • Organizing and storing current and one prior years’ financial records in physical binders at home

A bonus would be someone who is knowledgeable enough to keep us up to date on changes to German law involving Verein finances.
